Happy Halloween Ghosts and Goblins!

Happy Halloween to all!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love everything about it: the pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns, ghosts and goblins, candy and costumes.

Speaking of costumes…while I don’t dress up any more myself, I do enjoy watching the little, and sometimes big, kids who trick or treat at my home.
So check back here later this week for photos of these little devils, princesses, and super heros!

What's Blooming in the Garden - End of October

It’s the end of October and there’s still
a little activity in the garden.
Little being the operative word here…

The reblooming irises next to the front porch
have finally bloomed!

The toad lily must have 50 blooms on it but
they are so tiny that the effect is kind of lost.

A couple of Morning Glories tough out
the early morning frosts.

A perfect rose along the neighbors back fence.

Some tomato hopefuls that will get picked
this weekend before the hard freeze.

A tiny lone purple pepper waits to be
picked before the freeze.

Note: I work for a gardening catalog company and some times I get free flowers. (I know, right!) These irises were given to me 2 years ago and I planted them next to the porch so I could enjoy them in the spring and fall. We still sell these and others here:

Blooming in the Garden - Mid-October

Not much to report in mid-October in the garden. The toad lilies are still blooming, the basil is now pesto, the trees are losing their leaves. I’m (still) waiting for the fall blooming irises to open. So lets look at other outdoor and indoor related garden stuffs!

Remember my post about teeny, tiny lemons on my Meyer lemon tree from last spring? Well…take a look now! I have 3 large, luscious survivors left!

What will I do with them?

Suggestions?

On a very windy weekend I took a drive to some of my favorite places to see the fall leaves. Did I mention it was very windy?

Not many leaves left here...

Same on this lonely country road...

A little something here...

Guess I missed the grape harvest...

Still a "green" view at the old covered bridge...

These people clearly celebrate
Halloween
in their front yard regardless of the season!

What's Blooming This Week - Indian Summer!

Indian summer continues here in Ohio! Any time in October that I can spend outside in shorts and flip-flops is fine by me! The garden though…not as fine as the growing season winds down.

Take a peek…

The neighbors shrub is a real eye catcher!
