Blooming This Week ~ Sunny Yellow

With last weeks 100+ degree heat

I thought it would be nice to look at

sunny yellow flowers in my garden.

I love how they add pops of bright color in the midst of all the green.

Starting with a few volunteers...

Early morning sun on a volunteer sunflower.

Uh, another volunteer sunflower...haven't a clue what is going on here.

A future zucchini hides behind this bright spot in the garden.

Love these sunny yellow day lilies!

They are huge!

Rebloomers are always welcome!

Brown-eyed Susan's are just starting to bloom.

Blooming This Week ~ Hydrangeas & Hollyhocks

Mid-June and my garden is full of flowers!

Have a peek...

This hydrangea is so pretty and a nice welcome home by the front porch.

Pink coneflowers and daisies surround a barberry.

A lonely ruffled edge daylily.

A volunteer pink hollyhock blooms way out
back in the "natural" part of my yard.

A black hollyhock blooms next to the fennel.

A volunteer sunflower blooms near the bird feeders.

Lovely lavender!

Flower of the Day - Maximillian Sunflower

Today's flower of the day is Maximillian Sunflower. This wildflower is perfect in a cottage garden. At a height up to 10' tall and covered with bright yellow flowers it grabs center stage in your garden from August to October. This perennial likes full sun and grows best in lucky zones 3-9.

Happy gardening!

What's Blooming This Week - Beginning of August

It's still hot, still no rain and the garden is looking tired and shabby.

Let's see if I can find something to cheer about...

Lantana's are an annual here in Ohio and I always plant one in a pot to enjoy until frost.

This white Veronica, new to the garden this year,
is just starting to bloom.

The herb garden is actually a "let's throw all the seeds I've hoarded for years out back and see what comes up" herb garden. I marked the area with this sign to jog my memory while cutting the grass.

A trio of sunflowers from the "herb garden".

Against a foggy morning sky.

One more...I love their happy faces!

Flower of the Day - Maximillian Perennial Sunflower

Todays flower of the day is the Maximillian Perennial Sunflower. A late summer through fall bloomer, this sunflower brings cheer to your garden when everything else has stopped blooming. It's a tall flower (mine grows over 10'!) that butterflies just love! This stunner grows fast in full sun for lucky zones 3-9.

Happy gardening!
